Biography

Whilst it might be a cliché to describe a musician as versatile, Ben Marshall typifies the 21st century musician as an oboe specialist. Ben has performed in many of the traditional formats of the orchestral scene in the UK and abroad, including performing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English Touring Opera, Royal Northern Sinfonia, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He has toured the UK as Principal Cor Anglais of the Novello Orchestra performing live scores to Star Wars, Pixar in Concert and Beauty & The Beast.

The more unusual elements of Ben's performance experience have included doubling on Bassoon for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of 'A Christmas Carol', playing Bass Oboe with the British Paraorchestra, recording on albums for The Beau Bow Belles and Charlie Cawood and occasionally playing saxophone with Perhaps Contraption.

Beyond this, for the past three years Ben has worked as a performance consultant for Moving Performance, applying his breadth of experience to help others realise their potential.

Education has always been a cornerstone of Ben's career. He currently teaches Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet and Saxophone at Merchant Taylors' School, Westminster Under School and Graveney School and has conducted ensembles for Barnet Education and Arts Trust, Enfield Music Service and Hackney Music Service.
